DEMOCRACY & HUMAN RIGHTS SECTOR PROJECTS INFORMATION

Since 2003, The international community is trying to help Iraq in development, but these attempts are hindered by the presence of humanitarian crises from time to time, this trend has given new urgency to the long-standing discussion around better connectivity between humanitarian and development efforts and this called “Nexsus”. At the same time, the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out not just to meet needs, but to reduce risk, vulnerability and overall levels of need, providing a reference frame for humanitarian and development actors to contribute to the common vision of supporting the furthest behind first and a future in which no one is left behind. SEDO working to acheive the SDGs and apply Nexsus methodology to reponsed for the emergencies and humanitarian needs.
Although Iraq is considered a democratic country, there is still political instability, and there are many members of society who reject this type of political system in Iraq, which led to massive demonstrations during (2019-2020) in the central and southern regions of Iraq.
SEDO seeks to strengthen democracy in Iraq and promote the apply of human rights principles, it considers political stability to be very important for economic development, and there can’t be comprehensive development without real democracy and a comprehensive application of human rights principles.
SEDO implemented about (4) projects in the Democracy and Human rights sector and it has democracy and human rights consultant who is responsible for the develop the internal systems and tools in SEDO that related to democracy and human rights and provide technical support in these topics for SEDOs’ teams.

Communities from different ages, sects, and location. SEDO targeted them on household level and on community level..
SEDO implemented Democracy and Human Rights activities in each of Salahaddin, Kirkuk, and Diyala provinces

SEDO implement democracy and human rights activities including the election monitoring, democracy in schools, women and youth empowerment, Journalists protection and rights activities, access to information, democracy and human rights advocacy activities, human rights monitoring and reporting, and other activities.
